Mastantuono Posts Photo With Batistuta, Sparking Discussion Among Fiorentina and Argentina Fans

According to Argentine newspaper La Nación, Franco Mastantuono, who joined Fiorentina on loan this summer, recently met club legend Gabriel Batistuta in Italy. A photo of the two together quickly attracted attention from Fiorentina and Argentina fans.

This summer, 19-year-old Mastantuono began re-planning his future after missing out on the 2026 World Cup squad. Eventually, Real Madrid loaned him to Fiorentina, with the loan running until the end of June 2027.

At his presentation after joining the club, Mastantuono said: “Fiorentina presented me with a very attractive plan, one that will allow me to continue growing in my career. Italian football is very important, and I have always hoped to have the opportunity to come here and play. I hope this experience can help me improve and have an excellent season.”

During his first few weeks in Italy, Mastantuono also met one of his idols. On September 2 local time, he shared a photo with Batistuta on his personal social media account. In the picture, the two are smiling while embracing.

Mastantuono also added the Argentine flag and purple heart emojis, which was interpreted by some as a symbol of the connection and legacy between Fiorentina and Argentine football.

Batistuta is one of the most iconic players in Fiorentina's history. He played for the club from 1991 to 2000, wore the No. 9 shirt for many years, and became one of the club's most important scorers with 203 goals in 331 appearances. Last week, he also attended Fiorentina's centenary celebration at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

Mastantuono had previously expressed his respect for Batistuta publicly. At his presentation after joining Fiorentina, he said: “One of the most representative figures of this club is Batistuta. He is a Fiorentina legend. I have also spoken with some Argentine players who previously played for this team, and they all spoke highly of this place, which helped me make my decision.”

“I really hope that in the future I can also become part of this club's history.”

In addition, according to an earlier report from the Florence edition of Corriere della Sera, Argentine youngster Mastantuono, who joined Fiorentina on loan from Real Madrid, may move into a villa owned locally by his compatriot and Fiorentina legend Gabriel Batistuta.

The villa is located on a hillside near Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence. Although this is simply a living arrangement for Mastantuono after arriving in a new city, the fact that the owner is Fiorentina legend Batistuta gives it special symbolic significance.
