Real Madrid TV: Mbappe's Penalty Would Have Been Retaken If It Happened to Barcelona

According to Goal, Real Madrid TV believes that the penalty missed by Mbappe in stoppage time during the match against Real Betis should have been retaken.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, this penalty decision has become one of the main controversies at the start of the new La Liga season. A few minutes before the decisive incident, a goal scored by Real Madrid's Carlos-Espe was ruled out; in the 94th minute, the Betis goalkeeper saved Mbappe's penalty.

Real Madrid players believe that a Betis player had entered the penalty area early before Mbappe took the kick. The referee decided that a retake was not necessary, and Real Betis ultimately won 1-0.

Real Madrid TV claimed that when the penalty was taken, a defender's right foot was on the line and then he entered the penalty area, directly affecting the outcome of the attack. The channel also mentioned Bellerin, saying that one of his feet was also on the line.

Real Madrid TV criticized the referee's decision as contradicting the rules and said: "This was a technical error."

The channel also said: "If this situation had happened to Barcelona, this penalty would have been retaken; if Espe's goal had been scored by Barcelona, it might not have been disallowed."

Although the refereeing team insisted that Bartra had not crossed the line, Real Madrid TV stated that even if Bartra had not touched the line, he had already started moving and directly intervened in the attack. The channel also criticized VAR official Iglesias Villanueva for not alerting referee Hernandez Hernandez, and reiterated: "This penalty should have been retaken."
