Defeating PSG! Felipe Luis Becomes Monaco's First Coach to Start with Five Straight Wins

Ligue 1 powerhouse Monaco have enjoyed a remarkable start under new head coach Felipe Luis. In the early hours of September 5 Beijing time, they came from behind to defeat defending champions Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 away from home, securing five consecutive wins across all competitions. The 41-year-old Brazilian coach also became the first manager in Monaco's history to win all of his first five competitive matches in charge.

Facing the Ligue 1 giants at their home ground, Monaco did not have an ideal start. In the 31st minute of the first half, Marquinhos took advantage of a cross and scored from close range to give PSG the lead. Throughout the first half, the hosts completely controlled the game, recording 11 shots compared with just one from Monaco.

However, after halftime, Felipe Luis' team showed a completely different side. In the 58th minute, Flavio Nazinho stepped up to equalize for Monaco. Just 14 minutes later, Stanis Idumbo scored again to put Monaco ahead 2-1. In the end, Monaco left the Parc des Princes with a highly valuable victory.

This victory was not only a team achievement but also a highlight of Felipe Luis' coaching career. Since taking charge of Monaco this summer, the former Brazil international has led the team in five competitive matches: defeating Gornik Zabrze over two legs in the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds (3-2 away and 4-1 at home), and beating Le Havre (1-0), Marseille (2-0), and Paris Saint-Germain (2-1) in Ligue 1.

With five wins from five matches, 12 goals scored and only four conceded, Felipe Luis has created an unprecedented dream start in Monaco's club history. Notably, this match was also the second encounter between Felipe Luis and PSG manager Luis Enrique. In the Intercontinental Cup final in December 2025, Felipe Luis' Flamengo lost to Enrique's PSG on penalties. This time, the Brazilian coach not only achieved revenge but also demonstrated his coaching ability through his performance.

Before the match, Felipe Luis praised Enrique as 'one of the three best coaches in history.' After the game, he admitted that defeating such an opponent felt even better: 'Playing against him is a pleasure. Being able to beat him is the best thing.'

Currently, Monaco lead the Ligue 1 table with three wins from three matches and nine points, making them the only team in the league to maintain a perfect record so far. Meanwhile, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain have endured a difficult start to the league campaign, failing to win any of their first three matches and collecting only two points, putting their title defense under pressure.
