L'Equipe: Pavard Unexpectedly Stays at Inter, Rejecting Multiple Offers to Fight for a Starting Role

According to L'Equipe, Pavard struggled during his loan spell at Marseille last season, but surprisingly remained at Inter Milan this summer and bravely fought for an opportunity.

Last season, many players failed to fully recover from their experiences at Marseille, but some bounced back faster than others. The 30-year-old Pavard was one of them — after joining Marseille on loan from Inter, his performances failed to meet expectations and the purchase option was not activated. Despite receiving concrete offers from clubs including Benfica, Galatasaray, Como, and Porto late in the transfer window, the France international (55 appearances and 5 goals) did not spend too much energy searching for a new club and instead immediately expressed his desire to stay.

Pavard's first spell at Inter between 2023 and 2025 brought him two trophies (one Serie A title and one Italian Super Cup title), and he also reached one Champions League final (a 0-5 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on May 31, 2025), but the period ultimately ended on an unhappy note. Due to an ankle injury, he had to leave the United States and missed the remainder of the Club World Cup matches that began in June 2025 — which was also Inter's first major tournament under coach Cristian Chivu.
