Butt: Manchester United Should Consider Signing Osimhen; Saha Says Player Is Waiting for Offer

According to the Manchester Evening News, former Manchester United players Nicky Butt and Louis Saha have both advised their former club to consider signing Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen.

Reports say Manchester United, coached by Carrick, considered strengthening the striker position this summer but ultimately decided against making another signing. Sesko performed well in the second half of his debut season at United and is expected to lead the attack once he fully recovers his fitness. As Sesko missed most of pre-season, Mbeumo and Cunha took turns filling in as the central striker.

The 27-year-old Osimhen was linked with a potential departure this summer, with reports suggesting that Arsenal and Tottenham were interested in him. Butt believes Osimhen could provide healthy competition for Sesko.

Speaking to Midnite, Butt said: “I would consider playing Rashford as the number nine because I think Cunha and Mbeumo might be better suited to the wings. Sesko can also play a role at certain times.”

Speaking about Osimhen, Butt said: “I think Osimhen is someone who could be signed. For a club like Manchester United, he is not out of reach. I am not saying he is the kind of superstar who would come straight into the starting lineup.”

Butt added: “We should only discuss players who have a chance of being signed. There is no point talking about top stars who are completely unattainable. So I would quietly keep an eye on Osimhen. In terms of physical attributes and pace, he would be very suitable for the Premier League.”

Earlier this year, Butt had already suggested that Manchester United sign Osimhen. He believes the attempt to use Sesko as a central striker has not worked out and that United need more experience in this position, especially now that the team has returned to the Champions League. Reports say Osimhen earns £200,000 per week at Galatasaray.

In March, Butt told Paddy Power: “Osimhen is physically strong, quick, and able to make runs in behind the defence. He is excellent in duels, technically good, can score in different ways, and is also very good in the air.”

Butt also said: “I know Osimhen has not yet proven himself in the Premier League, but based on his physical qualities and style of play, he would certainly be able to adapt.”

Another former Manchester United player, Louis Saha, also suggested that his former club consider signing the Nigeria international. Speaking to MrGamble, Saha said: “I can be certain that Osimhen is a Manchester United fan and that he loves United. I can see from his eyes the impact this club has had on him, and he also knows what he can bring to this team.”

Saha added: “Osimhen can become another player like Bruno Fernandes. He would quickly understand this club. Manchester United only need to make contact with him, but that step has not happened yet. Osimhen is still waiting.”
