Carrick: We defended well for most of the time, both of their goals came from shots near the box

Coach, after a match like this, especially after such a huge disappointment during the added-time period, is this still a game you can accept? Did the team show the resilience it needed in such a difficult away match?

Yes, we showed resilience. The lads' effort and execution were very good. I think we put ourselves in very good positions twice during the match and responded well on both occasions. So after the disappointment, we scored again. Of course, not being able to take all three points away is difficult to accept. At that stage, there were certainly things we could have done better, such as managing the game better and controlling the tempo. However, both of their goals were scored from shots near the box or even outside the box, two excellent strikes that perhaps would not go in that often under normal circumstances.

But regardless, this is a draw. The feeling now is indeed a bit like a defeat because we came here to win. However, we have to accept the result and move forward.

That was exactly what I wanted to ask, because sometimes is there no need to overanalyze things? For example, with that excellent goal in added time, should you accept it and then look ahead?

Of course, we can always find areas to improve. We will analyze why this happened and in what ways we could have handled things differently. Of course, despite that, they really did score two excellent shots. I think our defending was quite good for most of the time and we did not give them too many opportunities.

I think we did very well in competing for second balls, we also defended well by stopping their crosses, and when shots needed to be blocked, we made the blocks. I think our defending inside the box was also very good. At times, our attacking play was excellent as well, with very good football through midfield and the attacking areas. So there were many positives from this match. It is just difficult to have a good feeling after it ended in this way.

One of the positives was undoubtedly Marcus Rashford. I was thinking, given that you played alongside him before, does that mean you have more ways to bring out his potential?

Listen, I have known Marcus for quite some time in different situations, and I know him very well. He is a very talented player. We have many excellent players in our squad, but his performance today was very good and he caused the opponents a lot of problems. He felt a little discomfort physically, so we had to make an adjustment. But he just has not had that final moment yet, and the chances have not been converted into goals. He still looks very threatening in attack, just like with his previous goal. I believe that moment will come soon.
