Patri: The English league is very attractive; the Ballon d'Or is also one of my goals

28-year-old Patri Guijarro replaced Putellas to become the new captain of Barcelona Women. Recently, she spoke in an interview with Catalonia Radio about her future, changes within the team for the new season, and topics including the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

Patri's contract with Barcelona runs until 2027, so there remains some uncertainty over whether she will stay with the club in the future. Speaking about her future, the midfielder from the Balearic Islands admitted that the English league is "very attractive." This summer, Putellas, Batlle, and Mapi Leon all chose to move to the English league.

Patri said: "Obviously, the English league is very attractive, and it is something we have been talking about for years. In recent years, including these past few months, many players have left. As for a contract renewal, that is not what I am focusing on right now. I am focused on the team and the start of the new season. Obviously, when we can talk about this matter, we will do so without any problems."

When asked further about renewal negotiations, Patri reiterated: "I am focused on my daily work right now."

Patri also acknowledged that Barcelona will go through a "cycle change" this year, but she stressed that the new players joining the team have arrived with "strong ambition." In her view, Barcelona remain one of the contenders for the Champions League title. Patri said: "I think those of us who have already won four titles deserve respect. I think it is difficult to put a label on the team, because anything can happen in football, and there are many strong teams capable of competing for the league title, the Champions League, the Copa de la Reina, and the Super Cup. But considering the work we are doing now and our achievements over these past years, I think there is no doubt that we should receive the respect we deserve as one of the top teams."

Patri also discussed her chances of competing for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. The Barcelona midfielder admitted that the Ballon d'Or is "one of my goals," but she also believes Putellas and Eva Pajor have equally strong reasons to win the award.

Patri said: "Putellas and Eva Pajor have both had outstanding statistics. They have also had a great season and helped us a lot. This is not something I am constantly thinking about right now. I am someone who values the collective highly, and I do not pay as much attention to individual matters. Of course, I truly cherish and appreciate the individual awards I have received, and I am very grateful for these honors, because I see them as recognition of my excellent performances and the effort I have put in over the year."
