On September 7 Beijing time, Fiorentina officially announced that the club's 48-year-old head coach Fabio Grosso had been dismissed. After leading the team to three consecutive defeats, scoring one goal and conceding nine, and falling to the bottom of the Serie A table, Grosso was forced to bid farewell to La Viola. He also became the first head coach to be sacked in the new season across Europe's five major leagues.
Fiorentina's official statement said: "Fiorentina Club announces that Fabio Grosso has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the men's first team today."
Grosso officially took charge of La Viola only in June this year. In the new Serie A season, Fiorentina lost their opening match 0-4 away to Roma, were defeated 0-3 at home by Frosinone in the second round, and then lost 1-2 at home to Torino in the latest round, after which the club made the above decision.
