Team reporter: Newcastle have started talks with Hall over a new contract; Willock and Murphy could also renew

According to Newcastle reporter Lee Ryder of the Chronicle, after the summer transfer window closed, Newcastle United are expected to sign new contracts with Joe Willock, Jacob Murphy and Lewis Hall. The club rejected offers for Willock and Murphy before the deadline, while renewal talks with Hall have already begun.

Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle confirmed at Thursday's press conference that the club had ultimately decided to keep Willock and Murphy. In the final stage of the transfer window, Besiktas hoped to sign Willock for around £17 million, while Nottingham Forest submitted a £15 million offer for Murphy.

Willock and Murphy both currently have only one year remaining on their contracts, so the Chronicle believes that renewing their deals will help Newcastle protect the players' market value.

Meanwhile, Hall's current contract runs until 2029, and Newcastle have started talks with him over an extension. Manchester United had previously been linked with a move for Hall, but Jaissle made it clear that he would not let the player leave.

Speaking about Willock and Murphy, Jaissle said: "Our squad is very balanced. They performed well in pre-season. They showed their abilities and still have the potential to improve further, so we ultimately decided that this is our squad for the new season."

"Actually, it is not just these two players. During a long transfer window, different players receive many enquiries. The important thing is communicating with the players, being honest, transparent and clear, letting them know what you expect from them, while also understanding what they expect from the club and the head coach."

"We have had these conversations. Everyone is very clear about where they currently stand in the team and what stage they are at. In the end, we decided to keep them."

When asked about Hall's future and Manchester United's interest in him, Jaissle answered directly: "Impossible."

Newcastle also completed signings including Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Nico Gonzalez this summer. Jaissle also praised sporting director Ross Wilson and his team for their work.

He said: "He and his team have done an excellent job. We have always worked closely together, and on everything we do here, our ideas are aligned."

"It is not just Ross and me; it includes everyone from the chief executive to the entire management team. This is something very special and very important. We have shown unity in the management structure, and we hope everyone can see the same unity on the pitch."
