Capello: Fewer whistles make Serie A more enjoyable, the pace is faster now

In an interview on a program, Capello said the new refereeing approach in Serie A has made matches more fluid and more enjoyable to watch.

After three rounds of Serie A, the new direction proposed by referee appointment chief Daniele Orsato has already become evident: there have been fewer VAR interventions and penalty decisions have disappeared.

While appearing on "Radio anch'io sport" (Rai Radio 1), Capello said: "It was time, fewer whistles were needed long ago." He believes this can avoid "rewarding dives and prevent someone from shouting every time there is physical contact." Capello said: "Now we can finally see more football, and the style of play is better to watch. We are seeing more players suffer from cramps because the game is more continuous, faster and more aggressive."

The average number of goals per Serie A match has now reached three. Capello explained: "If you constantly stop the game, teams will drop back and organize their defensive positions." In contrast, if an attack can be launched immediately, opponents are not yet prepared.

Speaking about the unappealing draw between Juventus and AC Milan, Capello believes Milan "are still in an experimental phase and need to figure out what Amorim wants." He also said: "On the other hand, I expected a better performance from Juventus. We still cannot see the determination and fluidity that Spalletti wants. At the moment, neither of these two teams has the qualities to dominate."

Among the Italian teams about to begin their Champions League campaigns, Capello is particularly focused on Como. He said: "Como have a very intelligent coach who knows how to read matches. He has established a style of play for the team and wants them to control games. It will be interesting to see how Como handle the Champions League."
