TA: Edu Terminates Contract with Nottingham Forest and Officially Leaves Club

According to The Athletic, Edu has terminated his contract with Nottingham Forest and has officially left the club.

Sources familiar with the situation revealed that Edu's contract has been terminated. The sources requested anonymity in order to protect their relationship with the club. Edu has not attended matches in person since February. The Athletic previously reported that he would leave the club; since early March, he has also not appeared at the stadium or training ground.

Nottingham Forest do not intend to find a replacement for Edu and do not plan to announce his departure. Chief football officer George Syrianos has taken on greater responsibilities after Edu was sidelined and after Ross Wilson left for Newcastle United in October last year.

Edu joined Nottingham Forest in July 2025 after previously working at Arsenal for five years. His role also covered other clubs owned by Marinakis, including Greek side Olympiacos and Portuguese club Rio Ave.

Nottingham Forest had a turbulent season last year, with the team at one point involved in a relegation battle and changing four permanent head coaches throughout the campaign, leading to questions over Edu's work. The previous season, the team had competed for Champions League qualification under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Athletic reported in August 2025 that there had been a conflict between Nuno and Edu, which ultimately became the catalyst for the Portuguese coach's departure in September 2025.

Postecoglou was then appointed as head coach, but his tenure lasted only 39 days before Sean Dyche replaced him. Dyche left in February, with Vitor Pereira taking over.

After that, Vitor Pereira was also replaced by former Crystal Palace head coach Glasner.

Before joining Nottingham Forest, Edu joined Arsenal in 2019 and became the club's first technical director. During his time there, he appointed former Arsenal midfielder Arteta as head coach in December of that year. In November 2022, Edu became Arsenal's first sporting director and resigned in November 2024.

Edu's recruitment work at Nottingham Forest also came under scrutiny, with players including Omari Hutchinson, Douglas Luiz and Zinchenko failing to impress at the City Ground.

As a member of Arsenal's 'Invincibles' team in the 2003-04 season, Edu played for Arsenal during his playing career. He later served as Corinthians' football director for five years, became an adviser to the Iran national team for two months in 2014, and then worked as coordinator of the Brazil national team for three years.
