Ferdinand said Heaven now has the ability to start for Manchester United and offered advice to his former teammate Carrick.

Ferdinand: If it were me, I would use either Heaven or Yoro in the defence

After Manchester United drew 2-2 with Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Ferdinand discussed Heaven's situation. Manchester United signed Heaven from Arsenal in February last year, with the transfer fee potentially reaching £1.5 million.

The 19-year-old performed well last season, but so far this season he has only made one appearance, in the opening match against Hull City. When Manchester United faced Everton, Heaven again did not get on the pitch, while Yoro came on as a substitute in the closing stages of the match.

Ferdinand said on his podcast: "I originally thought Yoro would have progressed earlier than he has. It has taken him longer than expected to reach his ceiling and fulfil his potential, but I believe all of that will still come."

"I think Heaven can play right now, but the manager has made his own choice. If it were me, I would use either Heaven or Yoro in the defence because they both have a pace advantage at this level of football."

"There are five centre-backs in the squad, and De Ligt is currently unavailable to play."

Manchester United failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their first three Premier League matches and conceded two goals in every game. Gary Neville said on the Sky Sports podcast that the issue of Manchester United conceding an average of two goals per game could continue to trouble the team.
