Marca: Real Madrid fan groups call for support for Ceuta during Champions League match against Inter; club has yet to comment

According to Marca, ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League match against Inter Milan this Tuesday, some fan groups with no direct connection to the club have launched an initiative on social media, calling on supporters attending the Bernabeu to bring Ceuta flags to show their support for the city.

Recently, the situation surrounding Ceuta has drawn attention in Spain. Some Real Madrid fan groups believe the club has not publicly expressed support for Ceuta so far, and they have voiced dissatisfaction over this. Social media has become an important platform for these fan organizations to communicate and mobilize.

Some influential figures within the Real Madrid fan community have also pointed out that this claim is 'difficult to convince people of,' and there is currently no evidence to confirm it.

One part of the background to the incident was a large banner displayed by Moroccan club Maghreb Fes during an African Champions League match involving references to Ceuta and Melilla.

During Maghreb Fes' match against Burkina Faso club Rahimo, some home supporters linked to the fan group 'Fatal Tigers' displayed a Spanish-language banner in the stands that read: 'Ceuta and Melilla: Two cities, one homeland — Morocco.'

The banner was displayed for several minutes after the start of the match, accompanied by chants and a large number of flags.

The incident occurred as Spain, Portugal and Morocco are jointly preparing to host the 2030 World Cup, with the three football associations needing to maintain close cooperation. As a result, expressions related to Ceuta and Melilla have once again sparked discussion over whether territorial disputes among the three countries could affect football cooperation.

In addition, Espanyol player Marcos Fernandez had previously publicly expressed support for Ceuta in La Liga.

In Espanyol's 1-1 draw with Sevilla, Marcos scored his first La Liga goal in the 98th minute. After scoring, he lifted his shirt to reveal a message on his undershirt: 'Ceuta is not for sale, Ceuta must be defended.'

Marcos was loaned to Ceuta Football Club last season. After the match, he explained that he wanted to dedicate his first La Liga goal to Ceuta because the place 'welcomed me very well, as if I were one of them.'
