AS: Deportivo La Coruña Has Invested More Than €50 Million in Its Own Sports City

Deportivo La Coruña’s investment in its own sports city has exceeded €50 million. The new building alone will cost €25 million. Each of the six hybrid-grass pitches is valued at more than €1 million.

One of the major pillars of Deportivo La Coruña, and by no means a secondary one, is its investment in training facilities. Since Abanca took control of the club, this has been an absolute priority. President Escotet has especially highlighted the importance of this project, which can be seen in the figures. Deportivo La Coruña has focused on Abegondo, located near the city of La Coruña.

A major renovation project is progressing rapidly there, completely transforming the training base, which now looks very different from when Lendoiro opened it in 2004. Since this ambitious renovation began, Deportivo La Coruña’s owners have invested more than €50 million.

Benassi recalled when he visited AS in June this year: “For us, this is the symbol and pillar of the project. The work started in 2023 when we were in the Primera Federación, and at that time we did not know whether we could be promoted to the Segunda División, and later we moved up to LaLiga.” Therefore, Deportivo La Coruña’s biggest investment has not been in Aubameyang, Adama, Leo Román or Yeremay, but in these facilities.

As Fernando Soriano said when analyzing the transfer market during the club’s promotion season a year ago: “This club’s project is to strengthen Abegondo and grow from our foundations.” Barcia, Mella, Yeremay, Laure and Angeliño all came through Abegondo and are now LaLiga players. Deportivo La Coruña plans to continue strengthening its youth development foundation. The club plans to open Abegondo’s new main building next year, which will become the “crown jewel” of the complex.

The new building will house facilities for the men’s first team and Fabril, as well as some of the club’s offices. The project alone requires an investment of €25 million. Half of the sports city’s current total investment will go toward this new structure, which is expected to become an iconic building.
