AS: Real Madrid Wanted to Sign Bastoni, but Deal Fell Through Due to High Price and Konate's Arrival

According to AS, Real Madrid were interested in signing Inter Milan center-back Alessandro Bastoni this summer, but the deal ultimately fell through due to Inter's asking price of up to €70 million and Real Madrid's squad configuration.

This Tuesday, Bastoni will travel to the Bernabeu with Inter Milan, but he originally had the chance to arrive there as a Real Madrid player. This summer, after Jose Mourinho returned to the Real Madrid managerial position, he hoped to sign the Italian defender.

For Bastoni, joining Real Madrid was undoubtedly highly attractive, especially as the coach pursuing him had previously led Inter Milan to win the treble. However, Inter Milan were unwilling to let Bastoni leave. It is reported that the Nerazzurri's asking price was at least €70 million, a figure they believed matched Bastoni's ability and leadership qualities.

Another reason Bastoni did not join Real Madrid was the arrival of Konate. The French center-back joined Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer after failing to renew his contract with Liverpool. Real Madrid had originally planned to continue strengthening the center-back position, but Raul Asencio ultimately did not leave, meaning the club did not sign another center-back.

Bastoni was originally one of the players considered by Real Madrid, but he was eventually removed from the club's recruitment plans. Real Madrid decided not to sign another center-back, while Bastoni, despite having other suitors, chose to remain at Inter Milan.
