Through an announcement published on its official channels, Catania publicly reaffirmed its trust in head coach Emilio Longo, despite the team having suffered three consecutive defeats in the league and the Coppa Italia.

The statement read: “Emilio Longo has the full trust of the club and the ownership. Grella and Varrà have made this clear and firm to the head coach, the coaching staff and the team. The club, together with the head coach, has analyzed the current technical situation, which requires the team to immediately and clearly change direction.”
Catania has had a very poor start to the season, losing in the league to Inter Milan U23 and Monopoli before suffering a heavy home defeat to Savoia last night in the Coppa Italia Serie C. Last season, they had also reached the semi-finals of the promotion playoffs.
