Rashford originally wanted to continue playing at Barcelona. During that loan spell, the England international had ups and downs in his performances, but his statistics were impressive: 14 goals and 15 assists in 49 appearances. Barcelona considered the €30 million purchase option too expensive, leaving the Manchester-born player to return home. After several difficult years at Old Trafford and loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona, the Manchester United academy graduate's future at the club had once been uncertain. However, nobody questioned the ability of the 28-year-old Rashford, whose contract runs until 2028. At the start of this season, he has already shown signs of form, even overtaking Dorgu on the left-wing position, where the latter had seemed destined to play an important role for the Red Devils, and becoming Carrick's starter.

Dorgu started Manchester United's Premier League opener against promoted side Hull City, but United were already 2-0 down at halftime, and he was one of the players substituted. Rashford came on in the second half and performed well, keeping his place in the 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town in the second round. Last Sunday, Manchester United drew 2-2 away at Everton, with Rashford staying on the pitch until the 70th minute before being replaced by Dorgu. The substitution sparked debate, as demanding Red Devils supporters felt the team lost its threat on the wing as a result, forcing Carrick to explain the decision. He said the change was made because the former Barcelona player had some minor physical discomfort, and he wanted Rashford to be in the best condition for the return of Champions League action against Sabah Football Club.

The fact is that in these matches, Rashford has already shown signs of a return to form and is currently one of the few players in the squad able to stand firm amid severe criticism. Paul Gascoigne had also criticized him in the past. Peter Schmeichel, meanwhile, praised him after the match against the Toffees, saying: "Rashford was fantastic, he even smelled like roses. Welcome back, Marcus, we have missed you."

His dribbling and ability to break through defenses, as well as his excellent physical qualities and sprinting speed, were already very clear in the previous footage. However, these qualities did not convince the highly demanding Jamie Carragher, who criticized his lack of goals. Although Rashford has made a positive start to the season, he has yet to open his scoring account or provide an assist, which were his strengths during his time at Barcelona.

Barcelona remains in his memory.

Rashford has never forgotten, and does not want to forget, Barcelona and the deeply influential experience he had there last season. Recently, he had the number "14" he wore at Barcelona tattooed on himself. It was a number he had never worn before, and he chose it as a tribute to another former Barcelona player, Thierry Henry.

He also had the number "9" tattooed, which is the number he returned to wearing after coming back to Manchester United (he also wore this number at Aston Villa). He is now wearing it as he gradually regains his form.
