Former Barcelona player: Jesus is like a temporary patch and unlikely to raise Barcelona's Champions League competitiveness

Former Barcelona player Dongou discussed Barcelona new signing Jesus in an interview with Catalonia radio program Tot Costa. He believes Jesus is an excellent player who can help the team, but this signing is more like a "temporary patch," and Barcelona will still need to continue searching for a forward who can truly raise the team's ceiling in the future.

During his first appearance on Catalonia radio program Tot Costa, former Barcelona academy player Dongou talked about Jesus' arrival. He believes the Brazilian forward has strong ability, but he is not the type of striker Barcelona truly needs to rely on for the long term.

Dongou said: "I think this problem has not really been solved yet. Barcelona should continue to address this position afterward. I don't know whether it will be next summer or next January. I think Gabriel Jesus is a temporary patch. He is not the striker everyone truly wants, but he is indeed a very good player."

"If Flick can help him regain some of the feeling he gave people during his time at Manchester City or Arsenal, then we will have a player who can bring a lot of help to the team. In La Liga, he will score goals, but in the Champions League, he cannot take the team to that level of improvement and allow it to compete with the truly elite teams in Europe."

"I like what Barcelona are able to create right now. No matter who plays in that position, they will score goals, and there is no doubt about that. I have absolutely no doubts about it. The real question is that when you face teams that are at the same level as you, that is when you can see whether this team is truly ready to win the Champions League or whether it has the ability to compete with those top teams. Although Dongou knows Barcelona previously made its greatest effort to sign Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, he believes the club will continue trying to strengthen this position in the future.

Dongou concluded: "Barcelona should sign the best players in the world, not players who are only average in level. If we want to develop young players, we already have La Masia. As for other signings, they should be players who can truly make a difference."
