Watford came from behind to beat Preston 2-1 at their home ground, Vicarage Road, handing their opponents their fifth defeat in the last six league matches.

Dominated in the first half, Preston strike first

In the 6th minute, visitors Preston took the lead. Johnny Kenny won a corner on the left, and after Alfie Devine delivered the ball, Jordan Thompson shot from outside the edge of the penalty area after receiving Leo Leroy's clever dummy. Watford goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia could only push the ball onto the left post, and Callum Lang followed up with a rebound to score. It was Lang's third goal in his last two matches.

In the 18th minute, Preston had a chance to extend their lead. Kenny made a high-speed run forward from the left, leaving the home defense completely exposed. His cross found Lang accurately, but Lang's shot went straight into Ravaglia. Throughout the first half, Preston played with more composure and posed more of a threat, while Watford produced very little meaningful attacking play.

Two goals in seven minutes of the second half complete the comeback

Watford turned the game around in the second half, with Edo Kayembe and Mamadou Doumbia scoring twice within seven minutes to complete the comeback.

Injuries limited the bench, making the comeback more notable

Due to injuries, Watford had only eight substitutes available for this match, including two goalkeepers. Completing the comeback under those circumstances was a direct test of head coach Alessio Dionisi's in-game adjustments. Preston, meanwhile, continued their poor fortune at Vicarage Road and left with their fifth defeat in the last six matches.
