Seven-Game Losing Streak Ends but Burnley Still Near Bottom: 1-1 Draw with Wrexham, First Win Still Waiting

Burnley drew 1-1 away to Wrexham, finally ending their seven-game losing streak across seasons, but their first Championship win of the new season still has not arrived.

Amdouni strikes first

In the 26th minute, Leeds United loanee Ramazani played a through ball, and Amdouni finished with one touch to put Burnley ahead. The Swiss forward later had another chance to extend the lead, but his long-range shot deflected off Cleworth and was pushed out for a corner by Patterson.

Ekomi equalizes with a header

Wrexham nearly equalized before halftime, but James and Kaboré's efforts were both dealt with by Weiss. In the second half, Parkinson brought on O'Hare and Rathbone, and the attack improved noticeably. Kaboré delivered a quality cross, and Ekomi headed home to score his second goal since joining Wrexham.

The draw did little to help either side's promotion ambitions. Wrexham are still waiting for their first home win, while Burnley have won only one league match since last October and remain around second from bottom in the table.

Vardy suspended and absent

The 39-year-old forward Vardy, who joined as a free agent this week, missed the match through a suspension for accumulated yellow cards and watched from the stands. Wrexham had a chance to take the lead after four minutes, but Doyle's header was collected directly by Weiss. In the 18th minute, Moore's close-range header was again saved by Weiss.

Although Burnley ended the frustration of a seven-game away losing streak, one point was clearly not enough. They need to turn draws into wins quickly in the next round, otherwise the pressure of avoiding relegation will continue to grow.
