Athletic Club officially confirmed that the team's No. 1 member, Justo Isaguirre Asategui, passed away in Bilbao on September 8, 2026, at the age of 104.

Justo Isaguirre's wife, Maria Cruz Casado Emparan, is still alive. The couple had seven children, 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In August 2022, after a friendly match between Athletic Club and Alaves, the club held a tribute ceremony for Isaguirre. At the time, Isaguirre had turned 100 years old, and the team presented him with a shirt bearing the number 100 and the name "Grandfather".
Athletic Club announced that the men's first team, before their match against Elche, and the women's first team, before their match against Espanyol, will both wear black armbands as a mark of remembrance.

Four years ago, on the occasion of Isaguirre's 100th birthday, his descendants and other relatives, with the assistance of Athletic Club, held a surprise birthday celebration for him at Lezama. Club president Uriarte, captain Muniain, De Marcos, Williams, and head coach Valverde all attended the event.
This weekend, both of the club's men's and women's first teams will wear black armbands in their league matches.
