Arsenal Monitor Ivan Toney as Gyokeres' Future Remains Uncertain

Arsenal are reportedly adding Ivan Toney to their list of forwards under consideration, with Arteta weighing the future structure of the attack before the winter transfer window opens. The Gunners are not actively seeking to sell Viktor Gyokeres, but his reduced role behind Kai Havertz has created uncertainty.

If Arsenal ultimately decide to approve Gyokeres' departure, Toney is one of the experienced forwards being considered and could serve as a replacement or backup option.

Arsenal view Toney as an experienced attacking option

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal would only consider selling Gyokeres if a top-level replacement has already been secured. Havertz remains Arteta's preferred central striker because of his movement, pressing and link-up ability, meaning any new forward would need to fit this system rather than simply provide goals.

Toney is viewed as a more likely replacement option than Julian Alvarez. The 30-year-old striker has made a strong start in the Saudi Pro League, and after scoring twice in Al Ahli's 3-2 defeat to Al Qadisiyah, he has reached eight league goals this season and is temporarily leading the scoring chart.

GOAL also reported that the brace came in his 100th appearance for Al Ahli, taking his overall club statistics to 80 goals and 16 assists in all competitions.

Toney could be a pragmatic gamble for the Gunners

Toney may not be the blockbuster signing some Arsenal fans dream of, but there is clear logic behind the interest. He is familiar with the Premier League, offers aerial ability, can hold up the ball and is highly reliable from penalties.

As a result, he could provide Arteta with a different attacking option from Havertz without immediately demanding to be the undisputed starter.

The concern is his age. At 30, Toney represents more of a short-term solution than a long-term investment, and Arsenal would also need to assess how quickly he could readjust to the intensity of the Premier League after playing in Saudi Arabia.

Gyokeres makes the situation more complicated.
