Goal: Manchester United’s 15-year-old talent waits for his chance as club legend advises against rushing his debut this season

Manchester United’s 15-year-old academy talent JJ Gabriel is attracting widespread attention. The youngster, who has been given the nickname “Little Messi”, is patiently waiting for an opportunity with the first team.

Gabriel featured in a pre-season match against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm, becoming the youngest player in Manchester United’s history to appear in an unofficial match. Andy Cole said of the young talent: “He is simply too young. The physical demands of the Premier League are not easy, and he is still in a stage of learning and development. But it may not be now, and it may not be this season. He just needs to keep his feet on the ground and continue doing his work.”

Another former Manchester United player, Lee Sharpe, also discussed the approach to using Gabriel. He believes the experienced senior players around Carrick’s coaching staff can provide good guidance for the youngster. The key for the club is managing the timing of his appearances, avoiding damaging the child’s confidence too early and preventing injuries in high-intensity matches. Sharpe has not completely ruled out the possibility of Gabriel making occasional substitute appearances of around 10 minutes this season, but he also stressed that the player is only 15 years old, so everything remains uncertain and his official debut could also wait until next season.

At present, Gabriel remains mainly involved with the youth teams, competing in the U18 league and the FA Youth Cup. Manchester United are also preparing a professional contract for him, carefully protecting his development process and avoiding rushing his progress.
