La Liga President Tebas: It Would Be an Honor for Messi and Ronaldo to Invest in Spanish Football

La Liga president Javier Tebas said that if Messi acquired Eldense, it would be an honor for him and Cristiano Ronaldo to invest in Spanish football.

Messi has reached a preliminary agreement with Colombian investment group TH to acquire all the shares of Eldense, who currently compete in Spain's Segunda Division. Elda mayor Ruben Alfaro has confirmed the news, but the deal still requires the necessary approval from Spain's National Sports Council (CSD).

Tebas discussed children's football culture at the launch of Panini's star cards for this season. He said: “The football culture of Spanish children starts with trading cards. Personally, I was a collector first, then came my children, and later my grandchildren.”

Tebas said: “I don't know whether Messi will acquire Eldense. I only know that if it happens, as in the case of Almeria, it would be an honor for us, because in recent years the two superstars of world football have both been considering investing part of their savings in Spanish football and making Spanish football bigger.”

Tebas also used data to emphasize the level of the Spanish league. He said: “In this country, we often don't appreciate what we have. Of the 52 players at the World Cup finals, 25 play in Spain. We have the best players in the world. Although we are not the richest league, we have the best quality of play.” He believes the Premier League's bubble could burst soon.

Tebas said: “This isn't something I am saying; Britain itself is saying it. They have already established a regulator to try to stop the Premier League from excessive spending. Some important clubs are being investigated for cheating for 15 consecutive years.” He also said he was pleased that Rodri had returned to Spain.

Tebas said: “I am very happy that Rodri is playing in Spain. Whether it is Real Madrid or Barcelona, I don't care.”

Tebas also said they intend to file a complaint over slogans targeting Jews around the Bernabeu before the Champions League match against Inter Milan.

Tebas said: “Remember, this is not our league, but we will still report relevant incidents in any competition to the appropriate authorities.”
