Tomori Rejects Three Offers to Stay at Milan, Club Compromises, Juventus Eye Free Transfer Next Summer

The 2026 summer transfer window has come to an end, and the future of AC Milan centre-back Tomori has finally been settled. From being considered certain to leave at the start of the window, to rejecting multiple offers and insisting on staying, and then being added back to the first-team squad list after the transfer deadline, the situation changed several times in just two months. As soon as the window closed, Juventus began looking ahead to 2027, with director Massara planning to sign the England centre-back as a free agent.

Going back to late July, when the transfer window entered a busy stage, Juventus had already been linked with Tomori. At the time, Juventus sporting director Massara had just taken office and was searching for a replacement in case Bremer left, with Tomori officially added to Juventus' recruitment list.

This was not the first time the two sides had been linked. Last season, Juventus had already considered Tomori a target for their centre-back position. The renewed contact was based on his Serie A experience as well as his previous partnership with Juventus defender Kalulu at Milan, which could provide immediate chemistry. In addition, after Amorim became Milan's head coach, Tomori was no longer part of the club's long-term plans, and Milan had decided to move him on.

As the transfer window entered its final countdown, Tomori's future remained uncertain. On August 30, it was also confirmed that Tomori rejected all offers, including one from Fulham. Although he had also tried to find a new club, no team emerged that could match his salary expectations and tactical role, so he ultimately chose to stay at Milan and compete for playing opportunities. Tomori's physical condition has not yet reached match level and he needs some time to resume training and adapt to Amorim's tactical system, but both sides have reached an agreement to complete the season together.

The day after the summer transfer window closed, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Juventus sporting director Massara had already listed Tomori as a key target for the 2027 summer window, with plans to complete a free-agent signing after his contract expires. Although Tomori has just been brought back into Milan's plans, there has been no progress in renewal talks between the two sides, and based on the current situation, the possibility of an extension appears very low.

According to FIFA regulations, starting from February 2027, Tomori will be able to freely negotiate with overseas clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement for his next deal. It is worth noting that the two sides have tried to part ways several times in recent years but have never completed a move. Tomori's role at Milan has remained somewhere between a fringe starter and a rotation player, and even if he returns to the squad this season, it will be difficult to change the broader trend of him leaving once his contract expires.
