Ankle injury in training disrupts comeback plans

Mudryk Suffers Ankle Injury in Training, Expected to Return After International Break

Mudryk joined Tottenham on a season-long loan from Chelsea on the summer transfer deadline day. He came on as a substitute in Tottenham's 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, marking his first competitive appearance in 646 days. However, the ankle injury has dealt a blow to his plan of quickly establishing himself in north London.

Based on the expected recovery timeline, Mudryk will miss Tottenham's two league matches at home against Everton and Aston Villa, with those games coming either side of the League Cup third-round away match against Liverpool.

Allowed to return after a 20-month suspension

Mudryk had not played in an official match since November 2024. He was suspended for 20 months for breaching the Football Association's anti-doping regulations. On July 31 this year, the FA and the World Anti-Doping Agency reached a resolution regarding an anti-doping violation case, after which Mudryk was allowed to return to club training and be included in match squads.

During those 20 months, Mudryk had to stay away from all Chelsea training facilities and train alone. He was provisionally suspended after an abnormal urine sample result, was given a four-year suspension by the FA in April this year, and later appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Tottenham's attacking injury situation

Tottenham are also without forwards Wilson Odobert and Harvey Simons, with both recovering from anterior cruciate ligament injuries. James Maddison missed the last two matches due to a shoulder injury, while Richarlison has been left out of the club's Premier League squad.

However, Dejan Kulusevski has returned to full training, which is good news for head coach Roberto De Zerbi. The club also strengthened its attacking options by signing Savio during the transfer window.
