On September 10 Beijing time, English football legend Steve McManaman, who previously played for Liverpool and Real Madrid, said on a program that he believes Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona could win this season's Champions League.
In the opening round of the Champions League league phase, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain put their Ligue 1 struggles behind them with a 6-1 victory over their opponents, temporarily moving to the top of the standings. Barcelona, meanwhile, thrashed Feyenoord 5-1 and have remained unbeaten in all competitions so far this season.
Steve McManaman said: "Paris are definitely favorites for the title. They have won the Champions League in each of the past two seasons. I think Barcelona are very strong. They have performed well in La Liga, and it looks like they can create scoring chances with every attack. The team has six forwards, which helps them a lot. Their strength has improved compared with last year, and they are definitely among the title contenders."
"Barcola's arrival can help Liverpool improve their strength, but I have doubts about saying that the team has now moved close to the group of title favorites. I think Liverpool are in a transitional period this year and will have ups and downs like last season, but I hope their results will be better than last season. I am no longer only hoping that Liverpool can qualify for the Champions League; I want them to truly compete for domestic titles."
