Sept. 9: Report Says Football Association Held Hearing; Wei Shihao Could Face at Least 3-Game Suspension and Miss Rongcheng Title Celebration

Chinese football has recently become the focus of attention following controversy from a Chinese Super League match. According to a report from domestic sports media outlet "Five-Star Sports," the Chinese Football Association held an online hearing on the afternoon of Sept. 8 regarding a disputed incident involving player Wei Shihao from the previous CSL round. Almost at the same time as the hearing ended, Wei updated his personal social media account and posted several messages expressing dissatisfaction.

According to sources, under the current competition regulations and rules, Wei Shihao is highly likely to face additional punishment from the Chinese Football Association. The initial suspension is expected to be at least three matches. This means that even if Wei's Chengdu Rongcheng team eventually wins the CSL title this season, he would be unable to share the honor and celebration with his teammates on the pitch as captain.

In the previous CSL match involved in the incident, Chengdu Rongcheng drew 0-0 away against Henan FC. However, after the match, Wei Shihao again had a heated verbal exchange with Henan supporters. During the confrontation, Wei made a controversial gesture toward the stands. The gesture had previously been interpreted by some as having regional discrimination implications and as an insult toward Henan fans, leading to widespread discussion and criticism.

After the match, Wei Shihao also posted screenshots of private messages he had received on social media, showing that he had been subjected to severe verbal abuse and personal attacks from some Henan supporters. Later, on the afternoon of Sept. 8, Wei posted several emotional updates, expressing frustration and anger over feeling that he was being singled out: "I'm going to receive another additional punishment! Do you really like targeting me? Which year have I not been punished? Why only focus on me for the same thing? Don't pretend to be so righteous. I was clearly the one who suffered the most online abuse. Do you want to see me leave football?" His comments showed strong dissatisfaction and questions about the situation.

Veteran media figure Miao Yuan analyzed the incident and suggested that Wei Shihao's strong reaction may have been caused by dissatisfaction with the hearing's punishment result, leading to an emotional outburst. Under these circumstances, Miao Yuan said the Chinese Football Association and Wei's club Chengdu Rongcheng should intervene promptly and provide guidance to prevent further inappropriate actions caused by impulsive decisions.
