Warnock: Iraola's Tactics Have Not Allowed Mac Allister to Show His Best

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock said that Iraola's current tactics appear unable to allow Alexis Mac Allister to perform at his best.

Mac Allister has been a key player for Liverpool since joining from Brighton in the summer of 2023, but his form has not been at its best in recent months.

However, Warnock holds the Argentina international in high regard and was impressed by his performance in last night's Champions League 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid.

Before the match, Mac Allister admitted he was disappointed not to have received a new contract, and he then backed up his words with a winning goal and an important performance. Warnock believes that if Iraola's system can be adjusted to provide Mac Allister with a better platform, we may see him play better.

According to BBC Sport, citing Warnock, Liverpool's current tactics appear too dysfunctional to allow Mac Allister to perform at his best, although there may already be some early signs of improvement.

"I don't think Mac Allister needs to prove his importance to Liverpool, I think everyone knows the ability he has," the commentator said.

"I think there will be a lot of discussion about him because of what has happened over the past few days, but Liverpool fans have already been asking why other players have received new contracts and he has not."
