Capello: Inter failed to exploit Diouf's huge advantage on the flank, too little attacking on the right

In the first round of the Champions League league phase, Real Madrid took advantage of two gifts from Inter and eventually won 2-1. After the match, former coach Fabio Capello commented on the contest in the Sky Sport studio.

Speaking about Inter, Capello said: "Inter played very well at the start, controlling the rhythm of the game. Real Madrid were at a loss on the pitch, and Inter could have dominated the match as they wished. Inter failed to take advantage of the chances they created and also did not make good use of the huge advantage Diouf created on the right flank. The team had too little attacking play on that side."

"After that, there were a lot of short passing combinations on the pitch. I saw that Real Madrid are very passive when facing long diagonal switches to the flanks in the league, and clearly Inter were not tactically prepared for this aspect in this match."

He continued: "Real Madrid showed weaknesses at the tactical level at that moment, and it was a pity that Inter failed to seize the opportunity. Courtois was the best player of the match. When you face a Real Madrid side that has lost balance in midfield, you have to take your chances, but Inter did not do so."
