Last season, Mallorca were relegated to the Segunda Division under head coach Demichelis.

After relegation, Demichelis immediately renewed his contract with the club and promised to help them return to La Liga, but a few weeks later he left the team to coach RB Leipzig. His departure angered Mallorca fans, who criticized him on social media for several months.
After his team suffered a 1-4 defeat against Como, Demichelis was asked about the issue in an interview and gave his explanation.
Demichelis said: "I was very happy at Mallorca, and I received a very warm welcome there. Anyone who knows me and has had meals or conversations with me knows that I devote myself fully to the club's work 24 hours a day. After leading the team to relegation, I renewed my contract with the club, but Leipzig sent me an offer almost at the same time as the announcement was made."
"At first I told Leipzig that I could not go there because I had already renewed my contract, but Leipzig's persistence eventually brought both sides to the negotiating table. So Mallorca fans, I did not run away, Leipzig paid for it. Emotionally, I understand why you are angry, but in any case, Mallorca will always be a special place for me, and I wish Mallorca all the best. I believe that even without me, Mallorca have already built a squad capable of immediately returning to La Liga."
