Palmer and Rogers are becoming one of the most dangerous duos in the Premier League. According to The Radar column, their partnership at Chelsea has already shown early results this season, with the pair combining for 11 goals and assists across five matches.

An interesting interview exchange

When Rogers learned that Palmer had been named Chelsea's man of the match in the win over Leeds United, he appeared a little puzzled. “I gave four assists,” he argued. Palmer responded with a smile: “I think it should be you.” Rogers then said: “Don't mention me, I'm just a spectator.”

The conversation, captured by cameras before the two were interviewed, also showed the understanding between them. That connection is equally visible on the pitch. Asked whether it felt like they had already played together for a long time, Rogers replied: “Pretty much, yeah.”

From Manchester City academy teammates to reuniting at Chelsea

The two are close friends and were also teammates in the England youth setup and Manchester City academy. Now at Chelsea, they have been reunited on either side of Joao Pedro and continue to create attacking threats.

In Wednesday's match, the two came on as substitutes at halftime and helped spark Chelsea's comeback. Rogers used a clever back touch to set up Palmer for the equalizer, and Chelsea's third and sixth goals also showed their combination in attacking build-up play.

This connection has become a regular feature. In Chelsea's five matches so far this season, Rogers has passed to Palmer 19 times, nearly twice as many as to any other teammate; Palmer's 15 passes to Rogers are also second only to his passes to defender Acheampong.

Nine chances created for each other, the most in the Premier League

Surprisingly, the two have directly combined for only one goal, but that number could have been higher. In the 4-3 win over Brighton, they repeatedly created opportunities for each other, only for the final blocks to stop them. In the opening match against Fulham, Rogers created three shooting chances for Palmer, but Palmer was unable to convert.

In total, the pair have created nine chances for each other, the most between any two players in the Premier League, more than double the total of five other combinations, including Palmer and Joao Pedro, as well as Semenyo and Haaland, who each have four.

Although many expected Palmer to be the provider for Rogers, the opposite has been more common so far. Palmer scored only once in 13 matches at the end of last season, but has already scored four goals in five matches this season, with part of his improved threat coming from his new teammate.

After joining, Rogers explained how the two players help each other: “We have different qualities, different ways…”
